Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Turns Unicorn After Rs 322 Crore Funding Round at Rs 10,822 Crore Valuation

Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited (MLMML), the EV-focused last mile transport subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra, has crossed the unicorn threshold after raising Rs 322 crore in a new funding round at a valuation of Rs 10,822 crore - nearly doubling its previous valuation of Rs 6,600 crore set during the India-Japan Fund round in early 2024. Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Turns Unicorn After Rs 322 Crore Funding Round at Rs 10,822 Crore Valuation

Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited (MLMML), the electric vehicle subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra dedicated to last mile passenger and cargo transport, has entered the unicorn club after raising Rs 322 crore in a new funding round at a valuation of Rs 10,822 crore - crossing the $1 billion mark that defines India's most celebrated startup milestone.

The fresh round values the company at nearly double the Rs 6,600 crore valuation at which the India-Japan Fund, managed by the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), had invested Rs 400 crore in early 2024. The sharp re-rating reflects both MLMML's operational progress and the accelerating investor appetite for India's commercial EV sector.

A Company Built for the Electric Transition

MLMML was incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra in 2023, housing the group's last mile mobility business - a portfolio spanning electric and CNG-powered three-wheelers including the Treo, Alfa, and Zor, as well as the Jeeto small commercial vehicle. The company commenced commercial operations in September 2023, following the completion of asset and business transfer agreements with M&M.

Led by Managing Director and CEO Suman Mishra, MLMML has focused on electrifying the last mile mobility segment - prioritising electric three-wheelers and four-wheeler small commercial vehicles - with the ambition of becoming Planet Positive by 2040.

A Track Record of Marquee Investors

The unicorn round is the latest in a series of institutional commitments that have steadily re-rated MLMML's valuation. The International Finance Corporation, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, made the first external investment in MLMML in October 2023 - committing Rs 600 crore across tranches at a valuation of up to Rs 6,020 crore, in what was IFC's first-ever investment in an electric three-wheeler manufacturer globally. British International Investment subsequently invested a final tranche of Rs 650 crore in December 2024, followed by the India-Japan Fund's Rs 400 crore infusion in January 2024 at up to Rs 6,600 crore.

The latest Rs 322 crore round, which pushes the valuation to Rs 10,822 crore, now places MLMML firmly among India's EV unicorns - a cohort that has been growing rapidly as the country accelerates its clean mobility transition.

Why the Milestone Matters

India's three-wheeler market is the largest in the world, and electrification of the segment is proceeding rapidly. Electric vehicles enable vibration and noise-free operations and generate higher earnings for drivers, enabling microentrepreneurship - particularly for women entrepreneurs - while supporting India's climate targets.

MLMML sits at the intersection of several powerful structural trends: India's EV policy push, the surge in last-mile logistics demand, the microentrepreneur economy, and the transition of commercial transport away from fossil fuels. The unicorn valuation is a market verdict on how central the company is expected to be to all four.
