Payments giant Stripe has reached a reported agreement to acquire artificial intelligence platform OpenRouter for a valuation exceeding $7 billion. The multi-billion-dollar deal represents a rapid valuation leap for the startup, which had raised a $113 million Series B round at a $1.3 billion valuation just months prior.

Founded in 2023 and led by CEO Alex Atallah, OpenRouter functions as a centralized gateway that allows developers to access, compare, and route requests across more than 400 different artificial intelligence models. By offering a single interface to models from providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and others, OpenRouter enables businesses to optimize costs, route around provider outages, and avoid strict vendor lock-in.
