Swiggy's quick commerce platform Instamart has appointed Gautam Swaroop as its new Chief Business Officer (CBO), the company announced. In this role, Swaroop will oversee Instamart's commercial operations spanning customer-centric growth, category management, and brand relationships and expansion.

The appointment is a direct and swift response to a leadership gap that emerged last week. Instamart had witnessed the resignations of its Chief Operating Officer Ankit Jain and previous Chief Business Officer Hari Kumar, both of whom stepped down citing personal reason. Swaroop steps in as the new CBO with a mandate to stabilise and accelerate the commercial engine of one of India's leading quick commerce platforms.

A Decorated Career Across Three Industries

Swaroop brings more than two decades of experience spanning consulting, pharmaceuticals, and technology. He began his career at McKinsey & Company, where he spent ten years working on strategy and operations transformation. He later joined Dr Reddy's Laboratories, where he worked on expanding the company's emerging markets business, with revenues growing from $37 million to $190 million during his tenure. Most recently, he served as CEO of OYO's international business, overseeing operations across the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, China, and Latin America, steering the global portfolio to profitability.

Girish Menon, CHRO at Swiggy, said: "Instamart is at an exciting juncture in its journey as we expand our offerings across differentiated assortment and consumption occasions and deepen partnerships with brands."

Swaroop himself added that he looks forward to driving growth, building stronger consumer and partner experiences, and creating enduring value as Instamart scales.

Broader Leadership Strengthening

Alongside Swaroop, the company has appointed Srikar Adavi as Vice President, Ad Monetisation, and Hardeep Kaur as Assistant Vice President, Category (FMCG), signalling a broader organisational push to support its next phase of growth.

The Competitive Context

Instamart currently ranks third by order volumes, behind Blinkit and Zepto. On a net merchandise value basis, however, Instamart and Zepto remain closely matched, frequently alternating for the second position, while Blinkit continues to lead the market.

The appointment comes as India's quick commerce sector enters an increasingly competitive phase, with players investing aggressively in leadership, technology, product assortment, and brand partnerships to strengthen customer loyalty beyond grocery deliveries. With rivals including BigBasket, Flipkart Minutes, and Amazon Now all scaling aggressively, Instamart's ability to execute under a refreshed leadership team will be closely watched in the months ahead.
