Honasa Consumer Elevates Nilesh Kotalwar to Chief Marketing Officer to Lead Its House of Brands Into the Next Phase
Honasa Consumer Limited - the parent of Mamaearth, The Derma Co., Aqualogica, and other D2C beauty brands - has promoted Nilesh Kotalwar to Chief Marketing Officer. Previously serving as Senior Vice President, D2C and Online Revenue, Kotalwar brings 15+ years of experience across FMCG, ecommerce, and brand management, with prior stints at Hindustan Unilever and Godrej Consumer Products.
Honasa Consumer Limited has promoted Nilesh Kotalwar to Chief Marketing Officer, the company announced on Thursday. In his new role, Kotalwar will lead the company's integrated marketing function across its portfolio of brands, with a focus on building stronger consumer connections, accelerating brand growth, driving innovation across marketing channels, and further strengthening Honasa's leadership in the beauty and personal care category.
The elevation is an internal promotion. Kotalwar takes on this role after spending the last two years at Honasa Consumer, most recently serving as Senior Vice President, D2C and Online Revenue — a role that placed him at the intersection of commerce and brand building, with direct ownership of Honasa's fastest-growing revenue channels.
From Commerce to the CMO Suite
The move from SVP, D2C and Online Revenue to CMO is a deliberate signal about the kind of marketing leadership Honasa wants at the helm. In a company that was built on digital-first distribution and data-driven growth, the CMO role is not being filled by a traditional brand steward — it is being filled by someone who has spent two years understanding exactly how Honasa's consumers discover, evaluate, and buy its products in real time.
Kotalwar brings over 15 years of experience across FMCG, ecommerce, digital marketing, customer and shopper marketing, and brand management. Before joining Honasa, he held leadership roles at Hindustan Unilever and Godrej Consumer Products, where he led business transformation initiatives and built digital and technology capabilities across modern trade and ecommerce.
What the CEO Said
Varun Alagh, Co-founder and CEO of Honasa Consumer Limited, said: "At Honasa, we've always believed that the best marketing decisions come from a deep understanding of consumers backed by strong business fundamentals. Nilesh has consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of our consumers and the evolving digital ecosystem. His ability to combine data-driven decision-making with strong brand thinking has helped drive meaningful growth for our business. As we continue to scale our House of Brands, his experience across digital commerce and brand building will help us create stronger, more resilient brands."
Kotalwar on the Opportunity
Kotalwar said: "Over the last two years at Honasa, I've had the opportunity to closely understand how consumers discover, evaluate and choose our brands. My early years in brand management taught me the importance of building brands through a deep understanding of consumer behaviour, while my journey since has reinforced the role of data and commerce in driving growth. This role gives me an opportunity to build on those learnings and shape a new-age marketing playbook for a digital-first company like ours — one that's deeply rooted in consumer insight, moves at the speed of culture, and delivers measurable business outcomes."
The CMO appointment comes as Honasa navigates a critical phase in its evolution — scaling beyond Mamaearth, its flagship brand, into a genuine multi-brand house spanning skincare, haircare, and personal care across price points and consumer segments. The Derma Co., Aqualogica, BBlunt, Dr. Sheth's, and Staze are all part of a portfolio that demands differentiated brand strategies, not a single playbook applied uniformly.
Kotalwar's background - built at the convergence of data, commerce, and brand management - positions him precisely for that complexity. His mandate is essentially to prove that a digital-first FMCG company can build brands that are as emotionally resonant as the legacy players his previous employers represent, while moving at the speed that digital distribution demands.
