Tata Steel has announced a ₹10,000 crore investment in its Jharkhand operations by 2028, aimed at creating 2,000 direct and indirect jobs while scaling India's steelmaking capacity from 27.35 MTPA to 40 MTPA. The largest chunk - ₹7,000 crore - will go toward deploying HIsarna and Easy Melting Technology at Jamshedpur, the company's patented low-carbon iron-making route. The remaining ₹2,600 crore will expand the Tinplate Division and ₹1,500 crore will fund a new Combi mill.
Tata Steel has announced plans to invest ₹10,000 crore in its Jharkhand projects by 2028, creating 2,000 direct and indirect jobs as part of its push to scale India's steelmaking capacity from 27.35 MTPA to 40 MTPA.
The investment includes ₹7,000 crore toward HIsarna and Easy Melting Technology, ₹2,600 crore for the expansion of the Tinplate Division, and ₹1,500 crore for a new Combi mill.
A key component is a 1 MT HIsarna pilot plant at Jamshedpur - a low-carbon iron-making technology that eliminates the need for conventional coke ovens, sinter plants, and pellet plants. The process has been in commercial use at Tata Steel's Netherlands plant for 10 years and allows the use of Indian coking coal, reducing import dependence and input costs.
The announcement was made during Jharkhand's National Stakeholders Consultation 2026 in Ranchi, the same summit that secured the Naveen Jindal Group's ₹70,000 crore commitment - cementing Jharkhand's emergence as a major destination for industrial capital in the years ahead.
